Marathea (Greek: Μαραθέα, also: Marathia) is a village located northeast of Karditsa in the northeastern part of the Karditsa Prefecture, Greece. Marathea is in the municipal unit of Sellana. Marathea had a 2001 population of 709 for the village and 967 for the municipal district. The village is situated in the Thessalian Plain.

Its residents are based in agriculture and other businesses. Its main production are cotton. In the older times, the village was known as Vanari (Βάναρη) and was renamed to Marathea in the late-20th century.

After World War II and the Greek Civil War, the population steadily declined as residents moved to larger towns and cities and the richest countries in the world.

Electricity and automobiles arrived in the 1960s, it was linked with pavement in the late-20th century, television arrived in the 1980s. Internet and computers arrived in the late-1990s.
